How Safe is Social Networking? - Who Uses Social Networking Sites?

There are a ton of social networking sites out there, for those who want to use them. But who does use social networking sites? Are they just for people who are looking for love, looking for jobs or looking for a way to pass the time?

No -- because social networking sites offer something that appeals to everyone. Through these pages, Internet users can meet and interact even across great distances. In this way, social networking helps to bring people together -- and the numbers show that Internet traffic appreciates the effort.

The real question is, who doesn't use social networking sites?

How popular are these sites? Just take a look at the rankings. According to Alexa, two of the top five most popular sites in the United States are social networking sites. In fact, the list of the top fifty sites in the country is peppered with social networking sites.

Flickr, known for its picture-sharing fun, ranks at number eighteen on the list. Adult FriendFinder, which is geared to people who are no longer in their teens, is rated at number thirty-eight. And LinkedIn can be found in the forty-third position on the list.

Who uses social networking sites? People that you know. Maybe not all of the people you know, but if you decide to participate you're likely to find a friend to add to your list.

Okay, so social networking is popular and very well known. That must mean it's okay for a wide audience of Internet users, right? That must mean that social networking is safe.

    Doesn't it?
