Five of the Top Free Antivirus Programs - McAfee Free Services

There are numerous free antivirus services offered from McAfee’s website that provide an interesting combination of protection. By using all of them, you can achieve a very light weight but extensive coverage of all of your computer’s activities.

McAfee SiteAdvisor is an add-on to the Mozilla Firefox browser. The software will maintain a constant watch while you surf the Internet and use Firefox. It offers quite a few extra features that you might find useful, including scanning downloads, rating the security of websites, and automatic updates. Although it does not have the full-computer scanning ability of a normal scanner, it can help stop an infection before it starts.

McAfee FreeScan is a tool that runs from the McAfee website and scans your computer for infections. Since it operates from the Internet, there is very little impact on your system. Unfortunately, it is a very slow method of scanning. One advantage of scanning from the Internet is that it will always be drawing from the latest infection definitions online. It also does not automatically rid your computer of infections. Instead, it advises you on how you can go about treating the infections yourself.

McAfee Virus Removal Tools are small utilities that you can download to rid yourself of the most common infections. Although it is annoying to have to download individual remedies for each infection, it can be nice if you are worried about a clunky antivirus program that offers a lot more than you need.

Overall, the “best” free antivirus software depends on your own personal preferences and needs. You can do your own research in addition to what you have learned here to determine which piece of software is perfect for you.
