ePublishing Tools: Webhosting Content for Mobile Devices - How to make eBooks – ReaderWorks and Mobipocket
(Page 3 of 5 )
ReaderWorks offers a lot of functionalities for conversion of other formats to MS Lit. Most of the functionality is available through wizards that make the conversion process painless. It accepts images (JPG, GIF, and PNG), plain text, HTML and MS Word format to generate eBooks, ensuring that the converted content is formatted to your specifications providing clean, easy navigation.
Apart from these well known formats it also accepts open eBooks package files (OeB) for conversion. And as expected these generated eBooks can be read on any Windows-based PC, laptop or Pocket PC with Microsoft Reader installed. The publisher edition also supports “Navigation Workspace” and “Tour Wizard” for creating custom tours through your eBook title and Table of Contents support for Microsoft Word Bookmarks and additional styles.
Extending the excellent model offered by the MS Lit specification, eBook Cover Page options allow for the creation of smaller eBook files. It also provides enhanced support for external links to the World Wide Web and improves on support for Open eBook (OeB) and XML tags. The best part is it explains its capabilities well in the user manual and online support. You can get a copy to try it for yourself from http://www.overdrive.com/readerworks. The good news is that the standard edition is available for free!
And finally we come to the Mobipocket eBooks. It has become more popular than any other format probably because its free reader is available on more platforms than any other eBook Reader (including Palm, Windows CE, Psion and Franklin eBookman); recently they’ve released Mobipocket reader for the Handspring Treo 600 smartphone. The Mobipocket format is also Open eBook (OeB) compliant.

The Mobipocket reader offers excellent features on almost all platforms like full text search, one click lookup, annotations, text highlighting and much more. One can easily personalize the reader as per his/her own personal preferences, and the inbuilt organizer makes it easier to organize your content in eBooks, eNews, eDocs or even your own custom defined categories and locate them.
