Choosing a Website Host - Intangibles

One of the most important factors in choosing a website host is its intangible value. This is made up of all of the factors that cannot be quantified. It includes customer service, frequency of updates and support, and general policies. It is often quite difficult to get a fix on this before you give a website host a try. However, it is one of the most important factors in determining how satisfied you are with the website host.

One very good way to determine the intangible value of a website host is to ask around. If you have acquaintances that have their own website hosts, then you should ask around and get impressions. People will generally either really like or really dislike their website hosts. If they are impartial to the host, then that means that there have been no issues. Having nothing that particularly stands out is better than having bad things happen.

Another thing that you can do is try out multiple hosts. Although this takes a long time and could end up costing more money, it does give you a good idea of what you will like. This is a good idea if you are trying to decide between a couple of close hosts or you have had previous trouble with finding one particularly good website host.

Another thing that you can look for is whether or not the website host has a money back guarantee. Many hosts will have an offer that allows you to cancel your subscription at any point within 30, 60 or even 90 days. If you cancel in that time, then you will receive all of your money back and you will be ready to try a different website host.

You can also try to speak with a host’s customer service representatives before you buy a plan. Many companies will have a live chat option that you can use whether or not you are a customer. If you just take a couple of minutes to speak with a representative, then you will likely get a pretty good impression of how happy you would be with their representatives in the future. If you are new to website hosting, then it is very important that you do not have any issues with the customer service of your website host. You will probably be dealing with them a lot.
