Platforms an eBusiness Can Implement - Which Platform is Best Suited for eBusiness
(Page 2 of 5 )
First of all, what are the platforms which support eBusiness needs? One could immediately list the following:
- Microsoft
- Open Source
- Sun
Can anybody simply claim that Microsft is very expensive and that Sun or Open Source are cheaper? If we simply ask this question to 100 top IT experts, you would definitely be confused with their answers. They all have different criteria and different evaluations of the technologies. To be frank, all excell at some task and suffer in other aspects.
First of all, stick to the rule that no platform is perfect to meet all requirements and demands you may have. Before implementing any of the above platforms, consider some of the most important requirements of implementation (inlcluding technical areas) like data storage and locations of hosting databases, network communications, security at every level, speed, CRM, ROI, application development, business process work flows, supply chain mechanism, online transactions, load balancing, clustering, decision support systems, warehousing, mining, application or service integration, managing the ever changing content on site (to the latest second), etc. Whew, what a list.
The above requirements are just a few very common considerations when implementing an eCommerce solution. Latest trends now include making services available to mobile devices as well, enabling the business to support Mobile commerce as well.
One could consider an eCommerce site 100% succesful if, and only if, no paperwork is used by any part of the business. So you must make other considerations based on that.
Now, think about your needs. Can we simply decide on only one platform to support all of the above? Certainly not! Let us go through each of the platforms now, each of which claims to be the best.
