Completing the Ultimate in Home Page Customization
(Page 1 of 4 )
Are you sick of your boring home page? Are you in search of a new way to color your daily life? Have you decided to find a way to collect in a single page all of your important news feeds? Alternatively, maybe you are simply looking for a way to give your home page a fancy look that you can share with your friends. In this second part of a two-part article on home page customization, you'll learn how to do all this and more, with Netvibes and iGoogle.
In the first part of this two-part series, I covered the background information. I explained why we need a start page of sorts for our web browsing, and why just a search engine isn't necessarily the best start page to have. I also talked about why we need the option to make our own start pages, and presented some choices you have on the web when it comes to building a start page.
Because I did not want to make this too long, I chose the two most popular ones and presented them side by side to give you a better idea of their differences and the advantages for each one. In the first part, I focused on their appearance, how they present information and how you can configure them. If you missed the first part, it is highly recommended that you stop reading here and go back to read it.
This second part will focus on the usability of each home page.
Here we can include all the rest. If the first part was dedicated to "how it looks," this part is focused on "how it works." Here I will cover every little option we use daily; of course, style matters, because this is what attracts the user and causes him or her to to pick form similar services. However, we shouldn't forget that our main wish was to find a place where we can amass all of the information we absolutely shouldn't miss, and realize this in an efficient way.
